Radio Bristol Returners Orchestra
The orchestra was formed in 1999 to play in the BBC music live festival in the year 2000. Originally it was set up to allow people who have played in the past and given up, an opportunity to once again get their instruments out and play.
From the very start Alistair Mackenzie conducted the orchestra. Under his baton the orchestra grew in stature and size enabling the orchestra to tackle more and more challenging music and continue thrilling audiences. Alistair moved away last year, which is when the orchestra came under the baton of Paul Sidney. Once again the orchestra has continued to play and has grown stronger with the change. Paul continues with the belief that music should be fun, not only for the audience but also the players. We hope that not only will you enjoy the concert, but also you will notice how much we enjoy playing.
Acton Aid
Acton Aid is a charitable organisation that puts on social functions & raises money mainly for the benefit of the Parishioners of Iron Acton. Recent events have included Midsummer Madness, a pig roast and dance in the Parish Hall, Guy Fawkes Night, bonfire & fireworks on the Parish Meadows with hot dogs in the Hall afterwards and a series of informal lectures held in the function room of the Lamb Inn on subjects as diverse as the history of the village, oil forming geology and plastic surgery. Beneficiaries have included the two parish schools, the Church, the Parish Hall, the cricket club and many individuals. If you would like to join our merry band please contact the secretary Ashley Mee for more details.
