Radio Bristol Returners Orchestra
The orchestra was formed in January 2000 by BBC Radio Bristol. Its aim was to encourage musicians who had let their playing lapse, to get out their instruments and play in the BBC Music Live festival later in the year.
The orchestra has continued to grow since this first concert, with players continuing to join making it one of the largest amateur orchestras in Bristol. Rehearsals every Monday evening ensure that the orchestra constantly improves and enables it to play a more challenging repertoire.
Paul Sidney continues to conduct the orchestra believing that music should be fun, not only for the audience but also the players. If you want more details about the Radio Bristol Returners Orchestra regarding possible concerts or vacancies for new players, contact Paul on 07799 718520.
Acton Aid
Acton Aid is a charitable organisation that puts on social functions & raises money mainly for the benefit of the Parishioners of Iron Acton but in recent years our events have supported worthy causes all over the world. After the success of the first two concerts we had to do it again but we wanted to improve the amplification, keep it small and keep it fresh so we have introduced a theme of ‘music from the shows’ to compliment a traditionally patriotic finale and our sound engineers assure us the new speakers will create a more even sound! Acton Aid continues to play a major role in village May Day Celebrations and has organised diverse events from a raucous New Years Eve to a Summer Seafood Sundowner to a series of lectures. Next will be a bonfire and firework display on 4 November. If you would like to join our merry band or if you know of an individual or organisation in the Parish in need of support please contact our secretary, Ashley Mee, in confidence if you prefer
