Radio Bristol Returners Orchestra
The orchestra was formed in January 2000 by BBC Radio Bristol. It’s aim was to encourage musicians who had let their playing lapse, to get out their instruments and play in the BBC Music Live festival later in the year.
The orchestra has continued to grow since this first concert, with players continuing to join making it one of the largest amateur orchestras in Bristol. Rehearsals every Monday evening ensure that the orchestra constantly improves and enables it to play a more challenging repertoire.
Paul Sidney continues to conduct the orchestra believing that music should be fun, not only for the audience but also the players. If you want more details about the Radio Bristol Returners Orchestra regarding possible concerts or vacancies for new players, contact Paul on 07799 718520.
Acton Aid
Acton Aid is a charitable organisation that puts on social functions & raises money mainly for the benefit of the Parishioners of Iron Acton. After the success of last year’s inaugural concert we had to do it again – resisting the temptation to make it bigger we decided to concentrate on improving the sound. So far this year we have played a major role in May Day Celebrations and had lectures on Armenia and Surgery in Uganda. We will also be celebrating Guy Fawkes 400th anniversary since his attempt on the Houses of Parliament on 5 November. Beneficiaries have included the two parish schools, the Church, the Parish Hall, and many individuals. If you would like to join our merry band please contact the secretary Ashley Mee for more details. If you know of an individual or organisation in the Parish in need of support please contact Ashley Mee or John Wright in confidence if you prefer.
